Overview

What is the Specialized Professional Program (SPP)?
The Specialized Professional Program (SPP) is an officially accredited initiative by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS). It is designed to equip healthcare professionals with advanced, practice-oriented expertise and provide recognized professional distinction in their field.
Through interactive lectures, case discussions, simulations, and applied assessments, participants will learn how to:
  • Promote and sustain a culture of safety and psychological safety within healthcare teams.
  • Apply systems thinking and human factors engineering to redesign unsafe processes.
  • Lead or participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) in simulation scenarios, and conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Measure, analyze, and interpret patient safety data to support improvement initiatives.
  • Design and monitor patient safety improvement projects, and develop evidence-based initiatives using performance measurement and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Communicate patient safety outcomes effectively with patients, leadership, and multidisciplinary teams.

Objectives

  • Explain the fundamental principles of patient safety, including safety culture, just culture, and human factors, achieving a score of 70% or higher in post-module assessments.
  • Apply systems thinking and human factors engineering to analyze safety events and system failures, and lead or participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) in simulation scenarios, as well as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Identify patient safety risks using risk assessment tools, and respond using both proactive and reactive risk assessment approaches, including structured and systematic frameworks such as FMEA and RCA.
  • Evaluate safety performance using key performance indicators (KPIs), dashboards, and trend analysis tools.
  • Develop evidence-based patient safety improvement initiatives using performance measurement and continuous improvement methodologies, aligned with organizational priorities and patient safety goals, and communicate outcomes effectively with patients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrate readiness for the CPPS exam through comprehensive mock exams and competency-based assessments aligned with exam domains.
